I got my start in digital media as a web assistant (yep, “web” assistant was a job title then) at Cosmo. I authored a blog on the site for over a year, which became one of Cosmo’s most popular columns.

From there, I began freelancing and moved to Paris. During that time, I was a style blogger for The Frisky (RIP); a copywriter for Swirl (DailyCandy’s sample sale website, also RIP); I landed pieces in Teen Vogue, StyleCaster, CNN, MSNBC, HuffPo, and New York Press, covering everything from Paris Fashion Week to American perspectives on political happenings. I eventually settled on the west coast, where I was among the first hires for BuzzFeed’s Los Angeles office. I co-ran a nostalgia vertical called “Rewind,” which was fitting because I had just sold a non-fiction book about Gen X and Gen Y. I moved up the ladder at BuzzFeed, ending as deputy editorial director.

I then became executive editor at HelloGiggles before being offered a role I couldn’t refuse: building a decor and design publication from the ground-up. The result was Hunker, where I was VP & editor-in-chief until December 2023, when our parent company unfortunately laid off all staff and sold the site to a different media company.

Since then, I founded Schmatta, a bestselling Substack covering design, architecture, and interiors through a lens of humor and relatability. In 2025, I joined the team at Isla Porter (a luxury cabinetry company) as VP of content and creative.

These days, I’m freelancing for publications like Dwell, Architectural Digest, and Dwell, as well as providing editorial consulting services to lifestyle and design brands.
